Navigating Hollywood as an Asian-American actress hasn't been easy. You had to be a martial artist, doctor or concubine. Inspired & resonating with Taylor Sheridan's story from coming up as an actor and then taking his destiny into his own hands by writing his way to an empire. This is a very personal song for me and it means a lot. I am following suit with all the projects I've written showcasing the stories of underdog women in history. They say you don't know someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes and this is the beginning of my new chapter.
Lyrics
Twenty years of "Line, please" and standin' on my mark
Waitin' for a gatekeeper to notice this spark
Stuck in Hollywood's hamster wheel a face in the crowd
There's a smile in my headshot but I'm screamin' out loud
Waiting for a callback in this town's like holding breath
I can feel the ticking clock and the bomb on my chest
I'd rather be like Spencer leaping from that train in the snow
Risking it all than die this slow
They wanted a little doll but they're about to get a storm
Cause this outlaw's tired of fittin' into a Co-Star form
I'm takin' the land and I'm fencin' it in
I'm done asking where my story begins
I'm the writer midnight rider starlit ghost in the wild
I'm buildin' this empire Taylor Sheridan style
I traded Tokyo's lights for the dust on my boots
But they circled me like white sharks in their agent tailored suits
They checked me off diverse but I don't belong in any box
They all underestimated me but I can't be stopped!
Just like Beth who never asks for approval from a man
I'm rising up from ashes with a pen in my hand
I'm on a hero's journey and you ain't seen nothing yet
I am a name in this town that you will not forget
I'm takin' the land and I'm fencin' it in
I'm done asking where my story begins
I'm the writer midnight rider starlit ghost in the wild
I'm buildin' this empire Taylor Sheridan style
I'm buildin' this empire Taylor Sheridan style
